A Relaxing Weekend

Hi all!

This past week I've continued transcribing interviews and researching TBI. On Friday the entirety of CONROD had their annual meeting, which was an all day conference with tons of speakers on trauma and its physical/psychological effects. It was amazing hearing all the work the lab is performing and how great an impact it is having on medicine and policy. Since the start of certain programs they've seen dramatic reductions in motor vehicle crashes and subsequent fatalities: The programs are making huge, positive changes. I'm excited to start back in the lab this week with new knowledge of their current projects, giving me countless ideas for research hypotheses.

On a completely different note, the Diamond Jubilee celebration is occurring in Australia (though not quite to the same degree as in England), which gave us all a three day weekend this week. As the weather has been pretty drab and dreary of late, I've used these days to explore the shopping hubs and museums in downtown Brisbane. I stopped by the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) and then the Queensland Museum's Gallery of Art, which was having an exhibit on the modern woman through art from Musee D'Orsay. It was well compiled and, most importantly, had works from my favorite french artists, so I quite enjoyed it.

In all I am loving being in Australia: I am meeting wonderful people and having a great time. As I've said before, I head down south to Melbourne this coming weekend to visit a cousin. I've heard it's a very fun city, so I'm excited to explore it! I will post pictures from the trip when I return.

Cheers!

  2. Kerri, tell us a little about the research (if you can). What kinds of interventions are reducing crashes?
